SHOULDER IMPINGEMENT

ABOUT SHOULDER IMPINGEMENT

A bursa is a fluid filled “sac” that acts as a cushion between bone and tendon/muscle to reduce friction. In the shoulder, there are many bursae present. Bursitis is a swelling/inflammation of one of these sacs that can cause painful motion. Bursitis can occur from trauma, irritation, poor posture, impingement, overuse, degeneration in the area, or other injuries in the area that cause inflammation for example a torn rotator cuff can cause inflammation in the area and anger the bursa. Your therapist will examine your shoulder to determine if bursitis is the cause of your pain and create a treatment plan to get you on the path to recovery.
