PELVIC ORGAN PROLAPSE

ABOUT PELVIC ORGAN PROLAPSE

Pelvic organ prolapse is a dropping down of the pelvic organs including the bladder, uterus, vagina, bowel, or rectum. Symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse include pelvic pain, urinary incontinence (ie. loss of bladder control), constipation, or a feeling of fullness or bulging at the vaginal and/or anal canals. Pelvic organ prolapse can also impact your sexual health. For example, you may be experiencing pain during sexual activity. Our pelvic floor physiotherapist is trained in assessing and treating pelvic organ prolapse which may include pelvic floor muscle retraining. This condition may occur for various reasons, but is often seen in postpartum women. In general, it is recommended to see a pelvic floor physiotherapist following the birth process to check for these common conditions and receive advice to keep your pelvic floor healthy and strong long term.
