HIP FLEXOR TENDONITIS

ABOUT HIP FLEXOR TENDONITIS

Hip Flexor tendonitis is a condition that affects the muscles on the front of the hip. The iliopsoas muscle is the strongest hip flexor. It is located on the front of your hip. Along with bringing your hip up towards your chest (hip flexion) it also acts as a stabilizer for your spine and pelvis. When injured, this muscle can cause pain on the front of your hip and a sensation of clicking/snapping of the hip. Hip flexor tendonitis can also be a contributor to low back pain. This injury can occur following a trauma such as a fall, or from a repetitive overuse activity such as running, dancing, or other sports. It has been  nicknamed “Dancer’s Hip” due to the high incidence of this condition in dancers. Treatment for this condition often includes stretching of the hip flexor and then strengthening the area to prevent re-injury. Your hip flexor muscle may also benefit from needling to release any built up tension. Your therapist will thoroughly examine your hip and the surrounding muscles to create a custom treatment plan to address your concerns.
