Hamstring Tendonitis

HAMSTRING TENDONITIS

ABOUT HAMSTRING TENDONITIS

Hamstring Tendonitis is seen in athletes such as runners, football players, and hockey players. Or, this injury can happen any time the hamstring is overstretched (especially if it is chronically tight). Occasionally, we see hamstring tendonitis in patients whose hamstring is shortened and tight from periods of prolonged sitting (such as desk work). Pain is often described as deep and located just below the glute (although can be felt anywhere along the back of your leg where the hamstring lies). Pain is usually worse during or after repetitive activities such as running, lunging, gardening, and squatting. Risk factors for this condition include hamstring tightness, previous hamstring injury, being overweight, and having an imbalance in the leg musculature (for example, weakness in the glute muscles). Your therapist will assess your hamstring by performing a variety of tests on the muscle. They will then create a custom treatment plan to reduce symptoms and restore your function. Your treatment may include manual therapy, home exercises, needling, shockwave therapy, and more!
